googlism

The Church of Google, or 'Googlism' was founded by Matt MacPherson in 2009 as parody religion incorporating elements of the Flying Spagetti Monster (praised be unto his noodley appendages) mixed with commentary about the sophistication and increasing symbiotic relationship that technologies like Google play in our lives.

The service had a spike in popularity, at one time running dedicated forums and an online ministerial certification programme.

However as interest in the site diminished, Matt transgressed the 10 commandments, specifically #9 "Thou shalt not use reciprocal links nor link farms, for I am a vengeful but fair engine and will diminish thy PageRank. The Google Dance shall cometh." and "Thou shalt not manipulate Search Results. Search Engine Optimization is but the work of Microsoft." by filling the site with shady back links and disguised commercial content.

In June of 2016, not even the organic traffic to shady urls was retaining Matt's interest and he stopped paying for the hosting on the site.

After waiting for 3 months to see if he would fix the site, I decided to rebuild the site from archive.org, the changes and details of which can be found on Github and Reddit
